Setting up a Will in Scotland

Why a will is important
Without a valid Will you cannot control who will inherit your property and subsequently you cannot assume that any spouse, life partner or children will inherit everything.
To die without a will is to die Intestate. What this means is that your estate is distributed according to the law which in most cases mean that it would not reflect your personal choices. In some cases your estate may even go to the crown instead of the people you wish to benefit. Many family arguments can arise over who should get personal belongings and which type of funeral should be arranged. Is it fair to ask a grieving family to make these choices?

A will is one of the most important documents that a person ever prepares. By making a will you can determine precisely who will inherit your property and let your loved ones know that you have considered their needs. Equally important you can determine who will administer your estate. In addition, make a will gives you the opportunity of reducing the Inheritance tax liability of your estate. This is particularly important if you have substantial assets.
So who needs a will:-
As yourself the following questions:-
-
Have you ever arranged a Will
-
Have you updated your Will in the last 5 years
-
Would your assets automatically be passed to the right people
-
Have you protected your assets from the affects of Inheritance tax
If you have answered No to any of the above questions you should be thinking about arranging a Will.
